Networking Problems:

On opening the Network Neighborhood icon I cannot see my own computer.

Fix:

Open up the 'Control Panel'.

(Click the Start Menu, select 'Settings' and click 'Control Panel')

Open the 'Network' icon by Double Clicking on it.

Select each item and click 'Remove'

(Do this one at a time until the list is empty')

Then Click 'OK' and when prompted click 'Yes' to Restart the machine

(Upon restarting you will be prompted to install a driver for your NIC, do so)

(You may now have to restart your machine again! - annoying ain't it!)

(If you are not prompted to install a Driver for your NIC then Do an add-new hardware autodetect,

If this also fails to detect the card, check the NIC is seated correctly if so, stop all none essentical programs and add-new hardware again, this includes ICQ!)

(On restarting you will be prompted for a password, just click 'OK')

Open up the 'Control Panel' again

Open the 'Network' icon by Double Clicking on it.

Click the 'Add...' button, select 'Adapter' and click the new 'Add...' button.

(Now a Dual Screen will open up)

On the Left Hand screen select 'Microsoft' then,

On the Right Hand screen select 'Dial-Up Adapter' and click 'OK'.

Now Click the 'Add...' button, select 'Service' and click the new 'Add...' button.

(Now a Dual Screen will open up)

On the Left Hand screen select 'Microsoft' then,

On the Right Hand screen select 'IPX/SPX-compatible-Protocol' and click 'OK'.

Change your 'Primary Network Logon:' to 'Windows Logon'

Click 'File and Print Sharing...' and ensure both options are ticked and click 'OK'

Now click 'OK' on the Main Network Screen.

(When prompted press 'Yes' to reboot your system)

(After Reboot wait about 1 min and then double click the Network Neighborhood icon)
